Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV

.KEY MESSAGES...
* Dangerous temperatures will continue through Monday across the
Mojave Desert. Hotter than normal temperatures will continue
through next week.
* Convective activity will be limited to northwestern Arizona
through next week.
&&
.DISCUSSION...through Saturday.
Widespread Major (Level 3 of 4) to Extreme (Level 4 of 4) HeatRisk
will continue through Monday as temperatures continue to run around
5 to 10 degrees hotter than normal with little to no overnight
relief in places like Las Vegas, Laughlin, Lake Havasu City, and
Death Valley. Temperatures will decrease a few degrees on Tuesday
and Wednesday as the upper-level ridge responsible for the recent
heat shifts off to the east. This ridge will retrograde back to the
west, moving directly overhead later this week. As the ridge moves
back overhead, we will see temperatures take back off as we close
out July and begin August with temperatures 7 to 10 degrees hotter
than normal. As temperatures take back off, we will see widespread
Major HeatRisk across our entire forecast area on Friday, with
widespread Major-to-Extreme HeatRisk over the weekend.
Moisture, driven by outflow winds from storms in Arizona, will
continue to work its way up the Colorado River Valley this morning
and afternoon, spilling into southern Nevada and northwestern
Arizona. This moisture will help to fuel isolated afternoon
convection, with a 15 to 25% chance of precipitation in the higher
terrain of Mohave County and the higher terrain surrounding the
Colorado River Valley. Precipitation chances will decrease on Monday
as moisture decreases. As the ridge shifts back to the east, we will
see a brief period of southeasterly winds aloft, which will result
in a slight uptick in moisture on Tuesday. This slight uptick in
moisture will bring a 15 to 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms
to far eastern Mohave County on Tuesday afternoon. Things will dry
out across the region during the second half of the week as the
ridge begins to retrograde back overhead.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...
Southerly breezes continue throughout the TAF period, strongest in
the afternoon and evening hours with gusts 15-22 knots. Slight
southeast component possible between 15z and 19z, but should be more
south-southwest once gusts kick in. Few to scattered clouds at or
above 12kft. Temps to exceed 100F until ~08z, and then again Sunday
from 16z - 08z with a high ~111F.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Breezy south winds
possible in the lower Colorado River Valley tonight due to outflow
from storms in southwestern AZ. Otherwise, light winds overnight
giving way to more southerly to westerly breezes Sunday afternoon.
Gusts generally 15-25 knots. Isolated to scattered convection
possible for areas southeast of the I-15 corridor. Gusty outflow
winds and brief periods of heavy rain likely with any storms.
Otherwise, VFR conditions with few to scattered clouds at or above
12kft.
&&
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
